Poet’s father Maharshi Debendranath Tagore used to visit along in the Himalayas. Rabindranath then was a mare lad. His father approached Rabi to accompany him in the Himalayas.
Naturally, Rabi was delighted. Eagerly he was waiting for the date of journey. This was his first tour and far from his “Jorasanko (Calcutta) house”. But one of his servants scared him. He told that train journey is very frightful. You have to hold handle very firmly, otherwise one is to be knocked out and not to be traced.
Anyway, at last the date of journey was come he reached in Howrah station and board in the train. He was very tensed, very fearful. Train started, and ran smoothly but nothing happened and Rabi somewhat disappointed. But that is for a while. Soon the scenery’s through the window fascinate him much. Rabindranath In Bangladesh
Later in his matured age for his jamindari job he had to travel extensively the Easter side of Bengal (now in Bangladesh) in the rivers mainly in Padma. This journey was very important for the sake of his literary work which enriched the literature as a whole. Travelling in the “bajra” we watched eagerly village life of that particular area. In his city life he has never seen this sort of life.
From this experience he started to write stories. It is to be mentioned that there was no short stories in Indian literature that time. He wrote one after one splendid short stories. The little joy and sorrow of the common village people was the ingredients of these stories. The Response was great. You can find these stories in “Golpogucho”.

Influenced of traveled in his personal life
At last I must mention one incident, which is not directly related with the travel, but travel took a great role to heal is unbearable sorrow. His younger son was “Shamindranath”, the talented boy of thirteen, already he wrote some beautiful poems. He went to his maternal uncle’s house at Munger in the holidays. There he felt illness. After some days of sufferings suddenly he passed away. Hearing this news he went to Munger to do his son’s funeral work.
Completing this work he was return into Calcutta by train. He was absorbed in great sorry and unbearable shock. It was the full moon night. He was looking through the window, suddenly a though came in his mind. Nothing has been changed. The mood was same beautiful as before, the trees, the rivers all are same. The death of his soon could not do any harm to the greater world. So, why am I in a deep sorrow? I have to recover myself as soon as possible and take my role in the universe. Gradually he recovers himself and did his job attentively. Only this poet can write these immortal lines.
