Is your train late in Howrah Station? Have you reached early in Howrah station? Therefore, instead of spoiling  time in the platform, come and walk with me for 5 minutes, and reach an offbeat place in Kolkata and Howrah. Yes, I am talking about the Howrah rail museum, which is close to Howrah station.

This is the first in Eastern India railway museum and India’s second railway museum after The National Rail Museum (NRM) in New Delhi Chanakyapuri. The Rail Museum Howrah preserved old and rare steam engine, the first electric locomotive built in India, various railway related handmade replica, models, the evolution of signals, electrification, track, etc.

Inside the museum a miniature of Howrah railway station is built, which is seems good and a perfect place for taking Selfie. Come here, buy the toy train’s ticket and get up into the toy train. It’s a 30 degree tour inside the museum. You can do a small picnic with your Bestie and kids in the green grass. It has a well-maintained garden premise.

Rail museum Howrah is the best educational museum of Indian rail history. Right  side of the entrance gate, the museum preserved tracks of various vintage trains and engines, locomotive express model, including the famous Kobiguru Express. Here you can find the maximum collection of vintage trains and engines, which are belongs before independence.

An area called The Hall of Fame where open tracks are displayed. It shaped like a railway car shade with two engines and three luxury saloons.

Many statues you can see, made of discard rail spare parts. Here the displayed models, handmade replica of trains and tracks, rare photographs, unique obsolete train equipment’s are precious and rear in current time.

What is the special attraction in Regional Rail Museum Howrah?

1, Hall of Heritage

The Rail museum has unic collection of rare photographs and rich history of East Indian Railway and  Howrah Station. This hall is housed in a building which is a prototype of the Howrah Station.

The two huts inside the building capture the history of the EIR and Howrah Station through photographs. The walls take you through a journey on a various theme of Eastern Railway heritage. There are working models and others rare oil lamps, token instrument, telephones, crests which were used during the earlier times. Two glass almirahs contain of various occasions of Eastern Railway.

2. Black Beauty Engine (EAST INDIAN RAILWAY)

The bullet nosed WP Locomotives were the mainstay of Broad Gauge Passenger Trains operations for a very long time, finally retired in 1995. This show is one of the 16 prototypes which were received from USA.

3. Model of WDM-2 class locomotive(engine)
4. East Indian Railway BESA, O & RR standard design locomotive of 4-6-O wheel arrangement HP class.
5. Silver Arrow (Passenger Trains)
6. NG FIRST CLASS COACH NG 75 FC DLX – Built for Darjeeling Himalayan Railways, it was working on 2’gauge picturesque Darjeeling – Siliguri section.

7. 19th century Double Decker Coach, which ran over East Indian Railways in the 19th century. This 4 wheeler coach was subsequently discontinued in service towards the end of 19th century.
8. Crests – Crests which signify the pride and motto of various railways beautifully painted on wooden plaques. They depict organizational respect of immense heritage value.
9. Vidyut (information booth) – Train travel has been so comfortable all through these years because of the electrical items used be it gadgets or equipment’s. Lamps to give light, fans to give breeze, calling bells to call attendants and many such electrical items used in 1ocomotives and coaches all aiming at a comfortable journey can be seen in this kiosk.

These items have evolved and improved over the years making train travel enjoyable for all. All the items displayed here are immense heritage value.

10. Smritiyan (information booth) – Rare stamps on Railways and special Covers of various occasions of Railway history. These stamps pertain to steam diesel and electric locomotives. The collection is very rare. Vintage documents and pamphlets stands witness to the rich and deep history of the railways in Eastern India.

11. Virasat(information booth) – This information booth has several railway uniforms which is used by Drivers, guards, TTE and even coolies. As they wear different uniforms to differentiate their job, with that they become an icon in the eyes of the railway passengers.

12. Doorsanchar (information booth) – This information booth shows railway’s communication service. It shows the miscellaneous future of Indian railway signaling system and how the system improves. Here you can see a replica of the signaling system and signal leavers including Neale’s Ball Token and machine.

13. The first ac electric locomotive which belongs to 1960, different renown trains including Howrah to Delhi Kalka Mail, Deluxe Express (now, renamed as Poorva Express), Black Diamond Express, Coalfield Express etc. has been preserved in the rail museum Howrah.

14. Rail museum Howrah preserves a railway engine which belongs to East Pakistan Railway. During the Indo-Pak war of 1971, this Pakistani engine entered in Indian territory and it was captured by the Indian army.

The entry ticket is 10 rupees per person and children below three years are free.

আমার হাওড়া রেল মিউজিয়াম ঘোরার অভিজ্ঞতা

হাওড়ায় ট্রেন লেট ? কি করবেন ? কোথায় যাবেন ? ভাবছেন। তাহলে লোটাকম্বল Clockroon এ জমা দিয়ে হাঁটি হাঁটি পায়ে ঘুরে আসুন হাওড়া রেল মিউজিয়াম। এটি হাওড়া স্টেশন থেকে হেঁটে ৫ মিনিট লাগে।

এখানে এন্ট্রি ফী হলো ১০ টাকা জনপ্রতি
টয় ট্রেন এর জন্য লাগবে আরো ১০ টাকা জনপ্রতি
মিউজিয়াম ১০.৩০ তা থেকে ৫.৩০ তা অবধি খোলা থাকে
সোমবার মিউজিয়াম বন্ধ থাকে
সেলফি তোলার আদর্শ জায়গা। হরেক রকমের ট্রেন পাবেন ব্যাক গ্রাউন্ড হিসাবে। আপনি আলাদা করে এসে ও এখানে একটি মনোরম বিকাল কাটিয়ে যেতে পারেন।

কলকাতার যেকোনো প্রান্ত থেকেও আপনি বাস, ট্যাক্সি ও অন্যান যানবাহন পাবেন হাওড়া স্টেশন আসার জন্য। আর দ্বিতীয়ত আস্তে পারেন কলকাতা হাওড়া ফেরি সার্ভিস এর মাধ্যমে। স্ট্যান্ড রোড এ অনেক গুলি ফেরি ঘাট রয়েছে যে গুলি থেকে সারাদিন ই ফেরি চলাচল করে কলকাতা ও হাওড়া আর মধ্যে। ফেরি ঘাট গুলি হলো – মিলেনিয়াম পার্ক, ফেয়ারলী প্লেস , আর্মেনিয়াম ঘাট ইত্যাদি। এছাড়াও বাবুঘার্ট, বাগবাজার ঘাট, শোভাবাজার ঘট্ ইত্যাদি থেকেও আসতে পারেন|

আমি মিলেনিয়াম পার্ক থেকে লঞ্চ করে হাওড়া ঘাট এ পৌঁছেছিলাম। ১০ মিনিট টাইম লাগে। তারপর আর ও ১০ মিনিট হাঁটার পর রেল মিউজিয়াম পৌছালাম।
